Allergies and pollen count

More than 50 million Americans suffer from hay fever each year. Allergies are triggered when your body identifies an ordinarily harmless foreign substance, such as pollen, as a threat. This will trigger an immune response, and you may suffer from sneezing, headaches, watery eyes, and respiratory issues. While some people only suffer from mild allergies, others deal with constant sneezing, difficulty sleeping, and painful headaches.

Dr. Askenazi or Meredith can perform an allergy testing to identify your triggers and diagnose the extent of your problem. Once you’ve identified your triggers, you can adjust your lifestyle and prepare for hay fever based on the activity of common allergens, such as ragweed, mold, and tree pollen. They can also work to reduce your symptoms through a safe, effective treatment plan.

Immunotherapy allergy treatment

While there are medications that can help your symptoms, they can also carry unwanted side effects. Luckily, there are advanced ways to provide long-term results that reduce your need for allergy medication.

Immunotherapy allergy treatment involves progressive dosing with allergens that trigger your immune system. These treatments are generally recommended for people who suffer from allergies for three months a year or more. During the initial treatment, you’ll come to the office for allergy shots once a week. Each dose will have slightly more of the allergen, and over time you’ll reduce your visits to about once a month. During that time, your body’s immune system improves, and you can expect to start feeling benefit within a year.
