Do you suffer from wheezing or shortness of breath? Do you have breathing problems that are affecting your daily activities? If you live in the Vernon Hills area, visit Dr. Noga Askenazi, Dr. Eugenia Hahn and staff of Advanced Allergy & Asthma Associates/Food Allergy Center of Illinois to get help for your breathing problems.

Breathing problems can stem from a number of things, from a common cold and sinusitis to allergies and asthma. For many patients, allergies and asthma occur together, which can be miserable if left untreated. Asthma is a common respiratory problem in which inflammation and airway constriction make breathing difficult. Asthma may be triggered by allergens such as pet dander, pollen, dust, or mold as well as by stress or physical activity.

For patients who are suffering from breathing problems, our caring and compassionate doctors will work with you to discover your triggers and to create a treatment plan that works. Testing may be done to determine the exact triggers. The most commonly used test is the skin prick test in which the skin is pricked and an allergen is inserted under the skin. Multiple allergens may be tested at once. Results from this test are available within 15-20 minutes. Other tests may include the scratch test or blood test if the skin prick test is negative.

Treatment to control your asthma, allergies, and breathing problems may include avoidance, oral medications, and inhaled medications. By identifying the triggers for your breathing problem, you will be better able to control it. Once the triggers are known, finding ways to avoid them is the best way to control your breathing problems. If avoidance is not possible, discuss the problem with our doctors to find a treatment plan better suited for you.
