Skin allergy sufferers seek a cure near Elgin
Elgin residents, if you are suffering from skin allergies, the first step is to contact your doctor for a skin test to confirm the allergy. Dr. Noga Askenazi, Dr. Eugenia Hahn, and Dr. Dipika Patel at Advanced Allergy & Asthma Associates/Food Allergy Center of Illinois are here to help.
There are different types of skin testing that can be performed. Your doctor may recommend the skin prick test, the intradermal test, and/or patch testing. The skin prick test can be used to check for reactions to several allergens. After the skin is pricked, placing the allergen under the skin’s surface, your health care provider will be able to see results in about 15-20 minutes. The intradermal skin test is slightly more specific. One specific allergen is selected and injected into the skin. The area is observed for an allergic reaction. Patch testing may be recommended if the doctor suspects you are allergic to a substance with which you come into contact. The allergic reaction from one of these substances causes contact dermatitis.
As the doctor evaluates your skin for results, a red, raised area or itchy or irritated skin shows a positive result. This shows you do have an allergic reaction to the particular substance. Skin tests are generally accurate so the results should be correct.
If you do have a positive result from your allergy testing, you may want to know about a skin allergy cure or treatment. Knowing the exact cause of your allergy is the starting point to finding the best treatment. Treatments may include avoidance, medication, or immunotherapy. By avoiding the substance, you eliminate the potential for an allergic reaction. Avoidance is not always possible. In those cases, medication or other treatments are necessary. Dr. Noga Askenazi, Dr. Eugenia Hahn, and Dr. Dipika Patel will work with you to help you control or eliminate the source of your allergy problems.
