What is an allergy?

An allergy is a reaction to a substance that is typically harmless to non-allergic individuals. These allergens can vary and include anything from foods to dust to insects. Research published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that at least one in five Americans suffer from allergies.

Symptoms of Allergies:

  • Watery, itchy eyes
  • Runny nose
  • Sneezing
  • Hives
  • Rashes
  • Fatigue

Common treatment for allergies

Our goal is to help patients by properly identifying the allergens and prescribing medications that can prevent or eliminate symptoms.

After performing specialized tests, we can provide patients with the answers to help prevent allergic reactions. One of the most effective forms of treatment is avoidance of the allergen.

What is asthma?

Asthma is a respiratory condition. Patients who suffer from asthma experience inflamed, narrow and swollen airways which can make breathing difficult. Asthma can range in severity from minor to affect everyday life. Asthma can also lead to life-threatening attacks.

Symptoms of Asthma:

  • Cough
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Fast breathing
  • Wheezing
  • Chest tightness
  • Anxiety
  • Throat irritation
  • Increased heart rate

Common treatments for asthma

Asthma is most commonly treated using rescue inhalers to treat symptoms or control inhalers to prevent them. Patients with more severe asthma may require longer-acting inhalers or medications.

At Advanced Allergy and Asthma Associates, our patients receive high quality care and specialty testing to accurately identify specific allergens and effectively control asthma.
